||: Introduction :||
Ever wanted to pursue your interests but don't know where to start? If I may offer a slight insight, I believe that more often than not, getting into an ideal field of your choosing would require some level of both exposure or networking.
In a brief explanation, exposure involves producing your works or products through any form of preference (the most commonly popular idea to use social media these days) while on the other hand, networking involves branching out to people in a chosen field of interest, then branching out to more people from your initial connection (best practiced around social circumstances such as schools or workplaces).
In this particular blog article, I would explore both methods to help you find out which method you should lean more towards although everyone should consider utilizing both.
||: Exposure :||
Exposure is typically best suited for ambitious and driven individuals who can turn their passions into their ideal products to pursue their ideal businesses. Exposure would be ideal for musicians who would like to produce many songs into albums, or artists that would enjoy drawing and selling their art to make their ideal living. Regardless of your passion projects, it would benefit you to keep producing work to get your brand across. The idea is to get as noticed as much as possible, which would then attract consumers towards your direction.
Exposure Pros
More friendly towards introverted folk
Could create a community with like-minded people
Express your Point of Difference
The ability to show people what you have been working on
Record your progress
Exposure Cons
More likely to suffer from burnout
Could end up suffering from Imposter Syndrome
Exposure benefits ambitious individuals who can produce their ideas and uniqueness to the world leaving them with more chances of being taken more seriously as people would see you for being you and would therefore attract people towards your brand through feeling a sense of relatability. This does however lead to a vicious cycle of working hard and occasionally makes you feel like you might not be doing enough due to a lack of recognition at the start.
Regardless, it is important to utilize your exposure to express your purpose and drive in your life, which would lead people to feel like they could get to know you focus on exposure would enable you to use your creativity and logic to get yourself noticed.
||: Networking :||
Networking is typically beneficial for people to get their reputation across and to gain as much recognition around people they come across in their daily lives. Ideas for people to begin networking would involve places they go to daily such as interacting with co-workers at work, interacting with like-minded classmates at school, or joining volunteer businesses based on your interests and relating to your fellow volunteer workers. Whatever the case could be, it involves one to welcome people into their lives and friendship circles while you get to advertise who you are and the passions you would like to pursue in life.
Networking Pros
More ideal for extroverts
Become more well-known in your chosen communities
Learn from mentor figures
Could get a good word for you towards higher-ups
Networking Cons
Fear of making bad impressions
Fear of rejections
Some people might not like you
Could remain in the comfort zone
Networking provides individuals with more options related to choosing where a person might want to go due to similar outlooks, aligned values, or similar life goals. Networking allows people to know you personally through the impressions of other people they would be more familiar with whether it be from social circles, finding people online through social media, or playing video games for example.
Utilizing your ability to network would allow people to learn about you and your ambitions through the impressions they get from other people who you would have mutual acquaintances with, thus allowing people to more likely, gain your trust as they would be more familiar with the mutual connection.
||: Verdict :||
It is important to understand the effect that exposure and networking have on an individual's success even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone as exposure would help people express the qualities that separate them from the crowd, while networking allows individuals to become more familiar with their fields environments due to meeting other people with similar or different viewpoints.
I believe that using a good balance of both exposure and networking would benefit anyone who would like to aim for success in any field, but it is ultimately up to you to decide which method you would like to focus on more depending on your goals in life. Whichever method seems appealing to you would depend on your values and outlook on life, But I hope this little blog article has helped you learn an aspect that would be beneficial for independence, success, or making one's own community.
